::: Incident: House Fire :::

March 5, 2011
- Warwick firefighters battled a house fire on Cascade Road Saturday evening. When they arrived, firefighters found heavy smoke and flames pouring from the house. No one was in the home at the time of the fire but unfortunately one of the family’s two dogs was unable to escape the blaze and perished in the fire. The house was heavily damaged by the fire, which investigators believe was caused by a coal stove.

The Greenwood Lake and Goshen fire departments along with the Warwick Community Ambulance Service assisted Warwick FD at the scene. Crews from the Chester and Pine Island fire departments were on standby in Warwick’s stations during the incident

Fire Prevention & Safety Public Service Announcements & Resources

Every year, approximately 2,600 Americans die in home fires. Over half of these deaths (52%) occur between the hours of 10:00pm and 7:00am, when residents are typically sleeping. Smoke and toxic gases from a home fire are as deadly as heat and flames.

Smoke alarms save lives, prevent injuries, and minimize property damage by detecting fires early and alerting residents, allowing crucial time to escape.  The risk of dying from a fire in a home without working smoke alarms is twice as high as in a home that has working smoke alarms.

With that being said and daylight savings time upon us, the Warwick Fire Department would like to remind all of its District residents not only do we need to remember to change our clocks but to change our batteries in our smoke alarms and make sure that they work properly. -click here for more Fire Prevention Info-
