This fire occurred at 3 Demarest Road in the Town of
Warwick. The alarm was sounded at 1:24 A.M. Initial reports
stated that fire was coming through the roof and an elderly
person was thought to be living in the house. On arrival FD
units found a fully involved ranch style house. Shortly
after arriving on scene firefighters learned that the house,
having been sold recently, was vacant and had been
undergoing renovations. The fire was brought under control
in approximately one hour. Mutual aid companies from
Chester, Goshen, and Greenwood Lake assisted at the scene
while units from Florida and West Milford were on stand by
in Warwick’s stations.

School. From there he was flown by helicopter to
Westchester Medical Center. The driver of the other car, a
red Jeep, was transported by Warwick Ambulance to Good
Samaritan Hospital in Suffern, NY. Both drivers sustained
life threatening injuries. Kings Highway remained closed to

the accident.
The Warwick Fire Department Scholarship Committee recently
awarded two scholarships to high school graduates.
Steven Dixon, son of Kim and Daniel Dixon was awarded $1500.
Steven has been accepted at a number of universities and
plans take a diverse range of courses. “I look at college as
a sort of stepping stone to the world, a lobby with many
doors to many places,” said Steven. In high school Steven
was a member of the Crew Team, the Mock Trial Team, the
Humanitarian International Club, and the Film Club. In
addition to volunteer work for his church, Steve
successfully raised and trained a puppy for the Seeing Eye
Association and is currently an active member of the Warwick
Fire Department’s Engine Company No.3.
Alex Batz, son
of Michael and Marie Batz was awarded $1000. Alex will begin
attending Rockland County Community College in the fall
where he will study Criminal Justice and Emergency
Management. During his years at Warwick High School, Alex

Warwick DARE Program. Also a member of the Warwick Fire
Department, the Raymond Hose Company recently awarded Alex
their Firefighter of the Year status for his dedicated
service.
College bound members of the Department and children of
members are eligible to apply for a scholarship award. The
scholarships are awarded based on the applicant’s community

and an essay submitted to the committee.
Money for the scholarships is set aside each year from the
